I made it through the week without killing anyone.
Not the customer who calls every day at 9am with a joke.
Not the idiot who can’t remember how to delete his cookies.
Not George or Kevin when they double booked clients last week for this week.
Not my parents or siblings.
Not even my dog.
It was one of THOSE weeks. Everyone wanted a piece of me. Everyone wanted me at the same time. I really hate the phone at the moment.
On the up side, I have finally unpacked all the boxes at my new house. I even have most of the stuff put away in a logical fashion.
Last but not least, I got the music on my computer to play! Ubuntu is just a tad fussy. However, I conquered the beast! And on that note, I’m going to climb into my jammies, make popcorn and watch a really girly movie!

New Hard Drive

The other day, I finally decided that it was time to retire my Macbook’s stock 80 gig hard drive. I had been eyeing this drive for quite some time, but didn’t feel like spending 150 bucks on it. However, I began to change my mind when they released a 320 gig version of the drive. Couple that with the fact that I was quickly running out of space and several more gigs would soon be taken by Spore, and you have me forking over the cash for the drive.
I installed the drive yesterday. A few months ago, I upgraded, downgraded, and re-upgraded my Macbook’s RAM (long story), so I was no stranger to Macbook innards. However, being a software guy much more than a hardware guy, I always get a little nervous when I need to swap out any of my hardware.

It’s been a few months, and I feel the need to play with my theme again. As before, I may decide to leave it as is, or change it all together. Be patient, please, and again, as usual if you see something you like, or don’t like, your feedback is both welcome and appreciated.
At some point, I expect to try out all of the Wordpress themes or eventually just self-host and have a custom design made. Until then, I’m rearranging the furniture one more time.

Chrome Fails

I had a great opportunity to install a round of upgrades on our public computers, and while I was at it thought I might as well put Chrome on them (I’ve been using it regularly and am quickly becoming a convert). However, I hit a really annoying stumbling block.
Chrome installs in the following directory:
documents and settings/[user]/local settings/application data
This is a hidden folder, not to mention one that limited accounts (which we use for patron logins) do not have access to. I’m sure there’s a way to alter the permissions, but I haven’t worked it out yet, and until there’s some more demand for Chrome I’m not convinced it’s worth the effort on my part.
On the other hand, the couple other staff members who have switched to it seem to love it.

Getting Creative

Today, I got started using Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS, both by Adobe. Using “real” Photoshop was easier than for some as I have had a bit of experience with Elements. However, I did not know how to use the pen tool because it isn’t included in Elements! I also have no idea what I’m doing in Illustrator. I’ve played around a bit with it, but I still don’t have a clue about any of it. I’m going to look for some tutorials to start getting used to the basics. If you want to learn some Photoshop stuff, check out Bert Monroy’s weekly video - some of the pictures in my Flickr photostream were made using his techniques, but most of them came from How To Cheat In Photoshop Elements (which is actually co-written by my Chromatically Challenged Father).
